ATHENS, July 17 (Xinhua) — An international journalism summer school hosted this week in northern Greece builds a new bridge of the Sino-Greek cooperation, a scholar involved in the project told Xinhua on Monday.
The first such summer school was organized by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki’s Department of Journalism and Mass Media Communications, with the theme of “international journalism and media organizations in a turbulent age: European and Asian Perspectives”.
The school opened on Sunday and will run till July 23, focusing on the opportunities and challenges for reporting in Asia and Europe in times of an ever-changing digital world, the organizers said.
Four Chinese are among the 23 students attending the course, and 10 university professors and three distinguished journalists will make presentations, Nikos Panagiotou, assistant professor at the Department of Journalism and Mass Media Communications told Xinhua.
The school was set up via the collaboration of the Aristotle University with the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and the Deutsche Welle Academie.
“We are launching an important initiative. This program follows the series of lectures I have given at BFSU and the relevant agreement of collaboration the two universities signed (in 2008). Our aim is to highlight the prospects of further cooperation between Greece and China in the tertiary education sector and promote the student exchange program we have successfully launched,” Panagiotou said.
According to organizers, the course of the international journalism summer school aims to provide in-depth knowledge and robust skills based to participants so that they can better understand critical issues of international journalism and to identify issues that are context-dependent and with global features in media organizations both in Europe and Asia.
